Ownership clearly established and protected by laws of the Arab Republic of Egypt (ARE). In 90-ies the last century, laws «were passed on opportunities for foreign acquisition of apartments, buildings, lands in Egypt »and« On rules of guarantees and development investment,» enabling the purchase of housing in the country. Nevertheless, there are some restrictions:

  • Foreigners allowed to buy no more than two houses with a maximum area of each 4 thousand square meters.
  • Objects should not be in an area of historic monuments, it is desirable that they are not standing on agricultural lands (in this case would have to spend a lot of time on the design)

The legal basis for the buy of real estate in Egypt is the law № 230 "On Investments"
In particular, the Act states:

  • Article 1. Foreigners can purchase property in the Arab Republic of Egypt, if they are individuals or representatives of companies. Under this law, foreign citizens have all the guarantees of the property. This is true for the buildings and lands that are not subject to the law number 1939 (on the lands of agricultural areas). If the land is located in a rural area of Egypt, the procedure of purchasing is much more complicated.
  • Article 2. Foreign nationals can buy a maximum of no more than two properties in Egypt to stay the owners and their families, as well as to any project in accordance with the laws of Egypt and the conditions necessary licenses. Maximum area of each property should not exceed 4000 sq.m. Purchased properties must be outside the location of cultural and historical monuments.
  • Article 3. Organization for the issuance of notarized power of attorney is authorized to monitor compliance with the rules of foreign nationals purchasing residential and commercial real estate and land plots. Registration of property for non-residents of Egypt carried out within 10 days after completing all the necessary documents on the property<. The agency operates under the auspices of the Office of the Ministry of Justice of the Arab Republic of Egypt.
